Fall Field Trips

The weather is already getting colder in many areas, but there is still time to do some great autumn-related field trips with your kids! The autumn is a great time to go on some outdoor field trips before the weather gets too cold. Here are some of our favorite fall field trip ideas:

  • Apple orchard: The fall is a great time to go apple picking with your kids. Research local apple orchards in your area and check one out! Your kids will love getting to pick their own apples and most places sell apple cider and have activities for kids. You can even take your apples home and work with your kids to make a pie!
  • Pumpkin patch: Research local pumpkin farms and see if there are still pumpkins to go and see. This is a great opportunity to teach your kids about farming and all that goes into growing different plants. You can even do a botany unit in conjunction with taking them to explore the farm.
  • Corn maze: One of the classic fall traditions, a corn maze is an awesome activity. Before you go, teach your kids about the history of the tradition or once again, you can discuss farming and plant biology with them. A trip through the maze is an activity they won’t soon forget!
  • Farmer’s market: Check out your local farmer’s market with your children. Explain the complexity of farming, or why different foods grow at different times of the year. Have your kids pick out food and let them help you make a meal with your purchases.
