Homeschooling can be difficult when life gets tough. You might not want to teach, or might not feel like you are able to with everything that is going on. That’s okay! Here are some tips to make things a little easier for you:
- Don’t be hard on yourself. Homeschooling is a ton of work and a lot to balance with everything else that goes on in your life. Everyone goes through rough patches – it’s completely normal! So, take it easy on yourself. Do your best to get back on track, but don’t stress if all doesn’t go according to plan.
- Focus on the basics. If you usually teach a bunch of extra subjects beyond math, science, history, and literature, take some time off from them. If you’re overwhelmed it’s best to focus on the central subjects. Devote what effort you can to those and you’ll keep your kids on track.
- Spend time with your family. This might seem obvious, but doing an activity can help you all to feel closer. The support of your family can help you to get through more than you realize.
- Don’t be afraid to outsource. If you simply can’t manage all of the teaching you have to do, outsource your most difficult tasks. Try out supplemental programs like Standard Deviants Accelerate. Your kids will still be learning, but you won’t have to do quite so much teaching.
